Meet the Director: Joe Ramos (Colorado)

Over the coming weeks, you'll have a chance to get to know each member of Connect's Board of Directors.

Connect is proud to have Joe Ramos’s continued service on the organization’s Board of Directors.

When an IT professional’s first work experience is to help run a nuclear powered submarine, he does not easily forget the potentially disastrous risks of operational downtime. During his 10-years serving in the United States Navy, Joe Ramos helped create and run the infrastructures of various Naval technology systems, including those on the USS Los Angeles nuclear submarine. Since then, he has applied that same emphasis on continuous availability and ethic of service to all of his professional efforts.

After trading his uniform for civilian clothes and mastering major processing enterprises at EDS, Joe got his first crack at a Tandem server while working with Wells Fargo Bank. For the last ten years, Joe has run Tandem/NonStop servers at Visa Inc., where he is the Director of Global Tandem Systems Engineering. His work with these servers supports Visa’s Global Debit authorization system, which keeps the financial institution’s massive Point of Sale, ATM, and Fraud operations running. Joe’s latest interests are focused on expanding Visa’s current Tandem Itanium infrastructure to include NonStop NB50000 Blades. He is confident that this enhancement will help create for Visa an ideal balance of the highest systems and application uptime with the lowest cost of ownership.

As a Connect volunteer and Director, Joe is tasked with growing Connect’s global membership base. “I would like to expand Connect membership so that members are engaged and value is exchanged at a higher level between the user community and HP,” says Joe about his vision for the organization.

Though Joe has spent the rest of his career on land after completing his service with the Navy, he has never stopped loving the water. When he is not working on the growth of Connect and Visa’s NonStop infrastructure, he loves to go to Mexico, where he spends his time relaxing on the beach.
