More Information
Connect is honored to have the continued leadership of Steve Davidek as a member of the Board of Directors. Steve currently works as the IT Operations Administrator for the City of Sparks, Nevada.

Steve began his IT career in data processing in 1981 at the National Judicial College (NJC) on the Campus of the University of Nevada, Reno as a Computer Operator, where he received his certificate in Supervisory Management. He began working for the City of Sparks as an HP3000 Computer Operator in 1984. He worked his way up to the position of Systems Supervisor in 1988 and Systems Administrator in 1991.

Steve has held his current position as IT Operations Administrator since 1998. In this role, Steve leads two full time staff to run the City of Sparks’ IT systems. He administers two HPe3000 systems, 45 Windows servers (20 Physical and 25 Virtual), 350 PCs, and 60 mobile computers installed in public safety vehicles. In addition, Steve is in charge of the City’s public and employee web sites, email, security, manages the IT Support Team and all other technology in the City.

Playing leadership roles within the IT community has been a consistent activity throughout Steve’s career. For seven years, he led the SierraRUG, a local HP user group, with active members in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Lake Tahoe, and all of Northern Nevada and the eastern (California) slopes of the Sierras. Before leading SierraRUG, Steve served as the group’s Secretary/Treasurer for six years.

In addition to his work with SierraRUG, Steve served for three years as chair of the Interex System Administration Forum, four years on the Interex User Group Support Committee (two years as chair) and a member of the Interex Advocacy Survey Task Force for 5 years including 2 years as the Interex representative to the Advocacy Steering Committee.

Before Encompass transitioned into Connect, Steve served as the Encompass Advocacy Chair, supporting the World Wide Customer Satisfaction Survey and other Encompass advocacy initiatives. He was also the Chapter liaison to the Encompass Board.

As a member of the Connect Board of Directors, Steve has played a key role in expanding the Advocacy/Community Voice program, and growing our Special Interest Groups. For 2012/2013 Steve is the President of the Board of Directors, Board sponsor for Connect’s world-wide chapters, and a member of the Finance committee.

Believe it or not, Steve and his wife Cheryl still find time for non-IT-related activities, including raising their two children in Reno, Nevada. Steve has also been highly active in the Boy Scouts for the past 40 years. He is an Advisor for Northern Nevada and Northern California’s Section of the National Boy Scout Honor Society - The Order of the Arrow. He is a member of the Western Region OA Committee and also is a chair of the Nevada Area Council Camping and Outdoor Program Committee. Steve’s leadership in the Boy Scouts has not gone unrecognized. In 1983, Steve earned the National Distinguished Service Award from the Order of the Arrow, an award of granted to only 41 individuals nationally every two years. He was also the recipient of one of only seven Silver Beaver Awards given in 2005 from the Nevada Area Council, Boy Scouts of America in 2005.

As a volunteer, Steve has developed numerous networks and friendships with other people in similar situations. He has given help to those in need, and received it from others in many ways. He has found this return to be true with both Connect and the Boy Scouts. You might say that Steve’s involvement in volunteer organizations is responsible for much of who he is today, since his wife is the sister of a fellow Boy Scout. While Steve can’t guarantee that Connect members will meet their future spouses through the organization, he’s pretty confident that getting involved in Connect is a great way to find people with the same skills, needs, and interests as you.
