Connect OpenVMS Blog
OpenVMS is a multi-user, multiprocessing virtual memory-based operating system (OS) designed for use in time sharing, batch processing, real time (process priorities can be set higher than OS kernel jobs) and transaction processing. It offers high system availability through clustering, or the ability to distribute the system over multiple physical machines. This allows the system to be "disaster-tolerant" against natural disasters that may disable individual data-processing facilities. VMS also includes a process priority system that allows for real-time process to run unhindered, while user processes get temporary priority "boosts" if necessary. This is an open blog for anyone interested in OpenVMS.

Richard Buckle's Real Time View
I am Richard Buckle and I have enjoyed a long association with User Groups dating back to the late 70s. I am particularly passionate about the grass-roots activities of communities and have enjoyed working with regional groups in many countries. I spent 7 years as a Director on the board of ITUG and served as its Chairman for 2 years (2004 - 2005). And I spent another two years on the board of SHARE, the IBM mainframe user group I am active in a number of social networks as well as a frequent visitor of virtual communities. I am also known as RT Writer (for Real Time Writer and taken from the column Real Time View published in the ITUG Connection magazine). And most recently, I formed my own company, Pyalla Technologies, LLC and have joined the board of newly-formed start-up, Infrasoft Pty Limited.
